Lava R5 is coming with a so-called “3D glossy rear shell” which provides some glossy color effects under the light to its backside. So, if you like it a bit of a shiny look, this can be an interesting design to consider. On the front side, there is a 6.22″ massive notch display with a 19:9 ratio. The bottom side looks a bit empty as the branding logo is on the back. But overall, it is a nice design to consider. However, you may find some phones with a metal body in this price range which is a drawback of this phone. Then the display is just HD+ whereas some phones will come with Full HD+ screen for the price. Take Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro for example which is coming with a metal back, Full HD+ display and with a Gorilla Glass display protection even for a lower price. Huawei Y9 (2018) is also ahead with display quality and metal build.
Performance of Lava R5 is decent for medium users with its 12 nm MediaTek Helio P22 chipset. If you need your phone to browse the internet, use light messenger apps, take photos etc. it will provide generous support. Graphics-intensive apps may run well with low settings. But here again, Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro is ahead with a 14 nm Snapdragon 636 chipset. However, MediaTek may sound inferior to many identical and most comparable to Snapdragon 450 chipset according to MediaTek. Oppo A3s is a Snapdragon 450 powered phone around the price. Anyhow, together with a powerful 4 GB RAM, Lava remains a trusted e name for overall performance optimization in the low-mid range scene.
Both front and back camera quality are reasonably good and can take some excellent shots in the daylight. Especially, the 16 MP front camera may perform very well because of the large 2.0um pixel sensor. But don’t expect anything fancy for the low-light scenario. Here to mention that, Samsung Galaxy M20 is a big winner regarding overall camera quality for the cost range.
Lara R5 is coming with 3260 mAh battery and 10-watt fast charging facility. 3260 mAh may not sound big but Helio P22 chipset is known to provide better battery optimization. Also, an HD+ display will consume much less battery than a Full HD+ screen. So, the battery is a definite plus point. There is also OTG, dual SIM, fingerprint, face unlock etc. features in this gadget. Altogether Lava R5 can be a satisfactory choice for Lava fans in this budget range.
